Building Back Better

As we crossover into the second half of 2022, I realize how so much has changed in our world, even as things start to return to something that resembles daily life before the identification of COVID-19. The virus still directly creates challenges and its after-effects are ever present.

For LooUQ one of those after-effects, supply chain disruption, particularly as it has affected semiconductor chip supplies. The direct impact is nearly constant redesign of LooUQ product assemblies to substitute one part or another as we initiated a manufacturing run. The other impact is limited product available to sell; this required LooUQ to shut off most of our retail/distribution channel.

During the last two years, LooUQ has continued to mature our products. During the shutdown timeframe, the driver code for the LTEm1 modem was continuously tested and refactored. In late, 2021 supply chain issues forced us to design the LTEm2 modem. The modem redesign resulted in a universal PCB shared between the LTEm1 and LTEm2 with several enhancements over the initial LTEm1 board. The LTEm1 may be produced again depending on chip availability; the LTEm1 has higher power consumption than the BG95-based LTEm2, but supports simultaneous LTE communications and GNSS(GPS) tracking.

LooUQ is releasing version 3.01 of the LTEmC code in the next 30-45 days with support for the LTEm3F (BG77), a Feather form-factor modem, and some improvements to the base code providing cross support for the LTEm1, LTEm2 and LTEm3F devices.

Recently I have realized that my beliefs and LooUQ’s focus on using technology to improve sustainability needed to be publicly reaffirmed. LooUQ technology allows for remote sensing and control, which has the ability to reduce resource consumption and use resources in a more prescriptive manner. To that end, the LooUQ web site has our sustainability promise; this includes our discount for LooUQ purchases used in projects that strive to lessen our impact on our one and only planet.

Other things going on include this Blog, with the intent to publish news about LooUQ, infomercials about LooUQ products and services, and how-to articles about IoT and embedded development. The goal as it stands now is for two posts per month. The LooUQ web-store will be returning very soon too. So in addition to our Tindie.com store, you can purchase LooUQ hardware direct.

Have a wonderful day,
Greg
LooUQ Founder and CEO
