Welcome... I'm Greg, the CEO of LooUQ.  This is the place where I can keep you updated on topics I think deserve a LooUQ; maybe something about IoT, or software development, or embedded technology.  Regardless, thanks for reading and let me know what you think.

Wow, exciting times here at LooUQ! We have just launched our LTEm1 modem Kickstarter campaign and we can't wait for you to go check it out. Yes, click that link right there, the one that says LTEm1 Kickstarter.

LTEm1 Kickstarter

Ok, if you are still here you didn't click on the Kickstarter.  Maybe you don't want your projects to go anywhere. I guess that's ok, if you want your IoT to just sit at home and not talk to anyone.

But just in case, here are some great reasons you should consider funding the LTEm1 and getting your hands on this advanced machine-to-machine modem, purpose built for IoT.

  • Small (40mm x 45mm), low-powered device

  • Certified on the Verizon US network (your device is plug and go wireless)

  • Incredible C/C++ object oriented device driver system (say goodbye to "AT" commands

  • Online documentation and email support

  • Supporting cast of host adapters to make connections easy

  • Developments kits to let your ideas travel far and wide.

Ok now, don't hold b...

Smart, connected things are inherently "connected" and for most connection technologies you would need some analysis to understand how much information is being exchanged between your IoT device and the cloud.  To help you sort through this I have created this guide that lays out the data components being exchanged and leads you through some typical connection scenarios.

I am going to assume you are sending text data between your IoT device and the cloud, a smartphone/tablet application or a server you own; for simplicity we will just call these "your application".

So, your device talks to your application and vice-versa.

Text conversations, using JSON format for the exchanged information is typical for IoT.   JSON is the predominant format for sending information around and if you for some reason are sending pure binary data, you can pretty much convert your binary data length in bytes to the JSON text string length.

To make it easy for you to visualize the calculations LooUQ has...

Sorry for the drought of content lately, but I can assure you we have been busy here at LooUQ. We are continuing to make improvements to our iotQi cloud platform and device clients, and we got out of the office too, while participating in a couple technology exhibitions in September.

Technology in Motion (TIM) Detroit

LooUQ was excited to be a startup exhibitor at TIM Detroit 2017.  Even though LooUQ IoT technology is applicable to any industry or en devour, we were thrilled to be present at TIM and to be witness to how transportation is poised for dramatic and exciting changes.  For those of you interested in transportation technology, next year TIM Detroit is Sep 19-21, 2018.

In addition to speaking with attendees and learning about their interests, LooUQ had a demo application showing how adding data to an existing process can dramatically improve it for all stakeholders; in our case, we showed how adding occupancy detection to parking meters could benefit both municipalities and...

For truly interactive IoT applications we need bidirectional event signaling: The enterprise needs to command your IoT devices, and Your IoT devices must be able to raise events in your back-end applications.   Fortunately, LooUQ iotQi has established patterns for both commands (to device) and event webhooks (from device). Webhooks are a lightweight HTTP pattern providing a simple pub/sub model for wiring together Web APIs and SaaS services like LooUQ iotQi; many services such as GitHub, Twitter, SendGrid and Stripe use webhooks to callback to you when service events happen.
