For others thinking about creating a startup company, let me tell you my journey.

Our Story

LooUQ started in 2016 in East Lansing, MI in the Technology Innovation Center operated by Michigan State University and across from the main campus. Originally, LooUQ was a software company, with the mission to build IoT tools for cloud integration. I had 25+ years of experience in information technology, data centers, and communications. And... a passion for tech toys.

East Lansing was great, it allowed LooUQ to hire a long-time friend (Mike) to help build the cloud tools. When LooUQ pivoted to include communications hardware in 2018, I was able to find a very bright aspiring engineer (Jensen) at SpartaHack (Michigan State's Official Hackathon), he helped LooUQ build up our embedded development capabilities.

Next chapter: Circuit River/LTEm

LooUQ started a determined effort to build hardware components in 2018. I picked embedded modems because I felt  better communication options was an inflection point to IoT adoption.

Jensen, who was now an intern, and I spent the better part of a year improving the LTEmC driver and building up features. The LTEm1 modems started selling, not by the tens of thousands, but revenue.

As change is inevitable... Mike and Jensen went their separate ways with my best wishes.

Traverse City...

LooUQ's New Home

In 2019 LooUQ moved to Traverse City in the northwestern corner of Michigan's lower-peninsula. Yep, that was a snowy year.

LooUQ continued to innovate. Then COVID. Following the shutdown, innovation turned to finding parts, introducing the LTEm2, which LooUQ still manufactures and sells today.

TL;DR

LooUQ Today

Still in Traverse City, a vibrant and surprisingly "tech" town up north.

LooUQ recently added Nordic Semiconductor to the lineup and have the first Nordic based product the MTC2-N9151 modem. LooUQ does contract design and development for clients. Contract software development spans embedded "C" to cloud (Azure), while hardware design services focus on remote sensing.
